Welcome to Tamar Science Park

past, present and future

Tamar Science Park was launched in 1995 as a joint venture between Plymouth City Council, Devon and Cornwall Training and Enterprise Council and the University of Plymouth. It's development has been greatly assisted by financial support received from the South West Regional Devlopment Agency (SWRDA) and from the European Regional Development Fund via the Goverment office for the South West (GOSW).

Hyperbaric Medical Centre and Phase 1

The Hyperbaric Medical Centre was the first venture to locate on the Park, opening in 1996. In 1998 it was followed by the opening of Phase 1 of TSP – an Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre (ITTC). This multi-occupancy building offers 24,000 sqaure feet of lettable space in units ranging in size from 300 – 1300 square feet, as well as conference and meeting room facilities.

Phase 2

Building on the success of the 1998 development in 2002, a second ITTC was established representing Phase 2 of the development. This three storey building offers 47 units in a range of 150 – 2800 square feet within a total lettable area of 24,000 square feet.

Phase 3

2003 saw the first stage in the development of Phase 3 of TSP, with the establishment of a 12,000 square feet bespoke building for the headquarters of Devon and Cornwall Business Link. In April 2004, Phase 3 was completed with the opening of three highly specified buildings providing an additional 28,792 square feet of lettable space.

Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry

In September 2004, a new 60,000 square feet Head Quarters building for the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry opened. This development has greatly enhanced the potential for the exploitation of medical research and acts as a catalyst for the clustering of medical-related companies.

Phase 4, Stage 1

November 2008 saw the completion of Phase 4 stage 1 of this c £30m development, providing 24,000 square feet of lettable area, pre-incubation space, Data Centre and Bistro (ParkCentral). Subsequent stages of Phase 4 will include a further 60,000 square feet of lettable space and a Science Learning Centre for Schools.

Future

Looking to the future, further plans include development of Phases 5 and 6. Master planning has recently taken place for the future development of Phase 5 and 6 comprising 1 acre and 5.2 acres resectively. Work continues with partners in the development of the Plymouth International Medical and Technology Park and the proposed Plymouth Marine Science and Technology Park.
